Black They/ Them
the distinction between “crafts” and “fine art” is probably driven by misogyny and the devaluation of women’s labor
art forms that have traditionally been practiced by women like embroidery are devalued and called just “crafts” while art forms that women historically were mostly barred from (painting, sculpture) are “fine art”
It’s also driven by racism in Western art appreciation courses in my experience. African art tends to be viewed as crafts rather than fine art, especially when it’s art that can have functional uses in households.
oh good, someone mentioned racism ^_^ was gonna.

painting a gay bar as a safe place for straight girls avoiding straight men is wild to me bc ideally it would be a safe place from the straights for gay ppl but we can’t have anything can we
i think people here are misunderstanding what im trying to say. this isn’t a fuck you to every straight girl who’s been to a gay bar. i myself wouldn’t blink at the idea of bringing some of my straight friends to a gay bar for a fun night out.
what im criticizing is this new wave of articles and think pieces urging straight women to take refuge in places that are ultimately meant to be safe places for gay people from straight people themselves. if you want to write about a need for more women’s spaces and women’s bars where women can feel safer, im all for it. but don’t try to rewrite or infringe on what a lgbt space is meant for - a space for lgbt people themselves
You really hate women don’t you
you’re talking to a whole lesbian buddy
Offerings to the Goddess Palden Lhamo. Tibet. 1500s.
Palden Lhamo is the principal protectress of Tibet and the only female of the Eight Guardians of the dharma. This black-ground painting was installed in the chapel dedicated to the wrathful protective deities (dharmapalas), a room reserved for tantric initiation rites within a Tibetan monastery. The exceptional scale and complexity of the composition relate the painting to the offering-scene murals known as “sets of ornaments” (rgyan tshogs) that adorn the interiors of shrines dedicated to the dharmapalas. At center, the wrathful four-armed goddess Palden Lhamo, emaciated and fearful, is riding her mule.
